PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Two teens have turned themselves in after an incident with firearms at a bus stop.
Police say a 15 and 17-year-old are charged with underage possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property and are being held at the Chesapeake Juvenile Services.
According to police, the incident happened just before 10 a.m.
A spokesperson for Portsmouth Public Schools told News 3 that a letter was sent home with students Wednesday about the incident.
The spokesperson said that two students each had guns in their possession on the school bus.
The students were at the bus stop at Two Oaks Road and Red Barn Road and shots were fired as the bus drove away. It is not known whether or not the shots were fired at the bus.
A parent reported the incident to the school district and the police were notified.
There were no reports of any injuries but there was an increased security presence at the school Wednesday as a result of the incident.
Neighbors say they heard the shots. "The way these people are shooting each other, using guns," said Ben Sobotka, a neighbor. "When I was a kid, we duked it out. We shook hands, and that was it."
