ODU offensive lineman Tyler Compton was announced as a nominee for the 25th Anniversary Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Good Works Team award recognizes a select group of student athletes who have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives of others. Being part of the team is one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.
Compton, a Virginia Beach native, has worked to help others, including volunteering to help people sign up for the Old Dominion Bone Marrow Registry Drive, volunteering at the Special Olympics for local elementary students and working with children at the EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program.
Allstate will announce a final roster of 25 members in September. The team will be made up of 12 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 12 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA and an honorary head coach.
Past recipients of the award include Super Bowl champion quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning and Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Tim Tebow.
