TUCSON, Ariz, – Noel Neill, the first actress to play Lois Lane on screen in the “Superman” film series, has died, her biographer said on Monday.

Neill passed away of natural causes on Sunday at her home in Tucson, Arizona, Larry Ward said. She was 95.

The Superman story has been immensely popular for decades, seeing success in comic books, television and movies.

Ward said the actress was a super person and performer, just a natural for the role of Lois Lane, the reporter on the Daily Planet newspaper in the city of Metropolis.

Lois Lane was a friend of Superman and a colleague of Clark Kent, the mild-mannered reporter who was Superman’s alter ego.

“She basically played herself. She was exactly the same person on the screen as off the screen,” Ward said.

Neill appeared in the “Superman” film serial in 1948 and then played in the “Adventures of Superman” TV show in the 1950s, according to the Internet Movie Database.

She later appeared in other Superman films, including the 1978 version as Lois Lane’s mother
