NORFOLK, Va. – Soon, Norfolk will have a new activity downtown.  Starting July 14 Nauticus launch a kayak rental program from its Half Moone marina.

“What could be more dramatic than staring up at a 900-foot-long battleship from a kayak?” said Stephen E. Kirkland, Nauticus executive director.  “With the residential expansion happening downtown, we wanted to give locals and visitors another chance to see this community from the water.”

The kayak rental program will be open to the general public and is being designed to bring a unique waterfront experience to the citizens of Norfolk.

Kayak rentals will start at $20 per hour and go up to $30 per hour for a double kayak.

Wild River Outfitters of Virginia Beach will operate the rental program from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Children must be seven years or older to ride with an adult. Teens 13 years or older can kayak alone.
