NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Leadership program Lead2Feed has given Menchville High School a $25,000 grant for the nonprofit of their choice and $10,000 in technology products for the school.
The students participated in the fourth annual Lead2Feed Challenge. The challenge encourages students to study leadership lessons, form teams and create programs to figure out ways to combat hunger.
This year, Menchville High students collected 6,594 canned items and $1,000 in donations for the Peninsula Food Bank. The students also raised 10,000 meals and $3,000 for Stop Hunger Now. Students created a coloring storybook that was donated to every Newport News elementary school student and created ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls Auction and Fundraiser.
The Lead2Feed Student Leadership Program attracts more than one million students in 5,000 schools and clubs across the U.S. Since the program was created in 2012, student volunteers across the country have provided nearly three million meals and hosted thousands of charity events to address specific community and global needs.
