CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Deep Creek Elementary school was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a gas leak near the building.
A contractor cut an underground natural gas line, causing firefighters to respond to the school around 9:15 a.m.
Although the leak was outside, it was close enough to the building to cause an evacuation.
Columbia Gas was able to secure the leak just before 11:00 a.m.
After firefighters checked the school with gas meters and deemed it safe, faculty and students were allowed back inside. There were no injuries.
