Meteorologist April Loveland’s First Warning Forecast
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 11:00 pm tonight for the cities of Chesapeake, Newport News, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Franklin, Norfolk, Suffolk, Hampton, Poquoson and the County of Isle of Wight.
Keeping an eye on the sky…The Storm Prediction Center has us in an Enhanced Risk for severe weather today. That means large hail and heavy rain are possible with these storms. An isolated tornado is not out of the question.
A steamy afternoon in store with some sunshine. Clouds gradually increasing. A slight chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm.
We will continue to keep our eye on later this afternoon and evening. That’s the best chance to see storms pop-up associated with a cold front that’s moving across the area. These storms do have the potential to become severe. The cold front will move off the coast tonight with some lingering showers and storms.
A slight chance for an early morning shower on Monday, followed by some sunshine.
Sunday: Clouds gradually increasing throughout the day. A slight chance for a scattered afternoon shower or storm. The best chance to see storms will be this evening. Keep and eye on the sky. Highs today in the upper 80s with winds increasing out of the southwest.
Sunday night: Showers and storms. Some storms have the potential to become severe. Heavy rain and large hail are possible. Lows in the lower 70s.
Monday: A slight chance for a lingering morning shower. Conditions will improve as clouds give way to some sunshine. Highs in the mid to upper 80s.
