NORFOLK, Va. – Yard sale season is here and knowing what to before you hold one is important.
Each of the seven cities in Hampton Roads have requirements for their residents when it comes to yard sales.
Most, but not all require the following:
- Purchase a $5 permit
- 1 – 2 sales per calendar year
- Sale can last up to 3 days
- One sign (no more than 12 feet) can be used to advertise in the permitted yard
- Used items are to be sold
- Make sure to have a list of the items being sold when you go to get your permit
Now that you have everything in order its time to plan for a fun and successful day.
Here are a few tips to make your yard sale stand out:
- Don’t sell only on Sunday, Saturdays are best
- Make sure your sale is a traffic stopper- place your tables close to your lawn’s edge
- Used books, CDs and DVDs are yard sale favorites
- Be fair with your pricing and you won’t have to negotiate
- You can also put your sale on a city calendar of events
