VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -  The 6th annual Hands Across the Sand event created a human line in the sand in protest to drilling off our coast with a goal of supporting clean energy.

HandsEmail"These seismic blasts are devastatingly loud, and underwater that sound can travel up to 2,500 miles from the sources. You can imagine the impact of such intensely loud blasts can impact fish, marine mammals, crustaceans, and bivalves," said Caroline Wood, Mid Atlantic Campaign Organizer for Oceana.

The event was held near Neptune Park at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach.

The Sierra Club, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Oceana, and Mom's Clean Air Force were at the event.

"Off shore drilling would offer all risk and no reward to the people of Virginia," said Wood.
