Newport News firefighters respond to house fire

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Newport News firefighters battled a fire at a two-story home in the 1100 block of 31st Street.

The call came in at 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday.

When crews arrived, they noticed big flames from the second floor of the home.

The fire was under control just after 2 p.m. The fire was confined to the second floor.

The home will be condemned due to extensive damage.

Newport News Fire Chief Carper says there is no one currently living in the home.

No one was hurt.
