Search for fugitive causes lockdown at Newport News elementary school

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Magruder Elementary School was put on lockdown for about two hours Thursday after police spotted a wanted fugitive in the area.

Officers were in the 1100 block of 21st Street when they saw Christopher Ray Robertson, who is wanted on federal indictment charges of possession of a firearm.

The school and a daycare in the area were put on lockdown around 11:50 a.m. as police searched for Robertson.

Robertson was not captured but the lockdown was lifted around 2 p.m.

Robertson should be considered armed and dangerous.
