VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Did you know that each step you take on the green grass of Mount Trashmore, is actually on top of an abandoned landfill? That fact is what makes up the basis of this park's unique history.

The 165-acre park includes two man-made mountains, two lakes, playground and fitness areas, and multiple walking trails.

The mountains of Mount Trashmore are perhaps the most distinct features of the park. They are former landfills that were man-made into mountains for people to enjoy - from fitness workouts, to kite flying.

The main mountain, Mount Trashmore, is 60 feet in height and 800 feet long and was created by compacting layers of solid waste and clean soil.
