SUFFOLK, Va. – Police believe a car that crashed into a ditch on Carters Cove Road in the Sleepy Lake section of Suffolk, is related to several vehicle break-ins along Bridge Road.

An officer spotted a silver Chevrolet Malibu believed to be stolen around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The officer initially pursued the vehicle, but the pursuit was terminated.

The vehicle was subsequently found to have run off the road in the 8800 block of Carters Cove Road.

A passenger in the Malibu was injured and stayed on scene. The driver and the other passenger, a 17 year-old, ran away.

K9 Officers assisted in the search and those two suspects were located within the hour.

The injured passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and 17-year-old passenger were ground transported to the hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries.

The involved vehicle’s license plates did not match the vehicle and it is believed to have been stolen, however, it has yet to be reported.  Items located within the vehicle were also believed to have been stolen during recent thefts from vehicles in the area.

The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
