$30,000 in grants given by Virginia Natural Gas

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Virginia Natural Gas has awarded three organizations in the Hampton Roads area  upwards of $30,000 worth of grant money to promote environmental sustainability initiatives.

Virginia Natural Gas has a large group of customers, ranging more than 290,000 in the southeastern Virginia region alone.  The organizations included in this initiative are :

The Nature Conservancy – $20,000

• Continuing its support of efforts to restore globally rare longleaf pines in southeastern Virginia, as well as rebuilding natural habitats for red cockaded woodpeckers.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation – $10,000

• Continuing to offer its on-the-water, hands-on education programs to more than 14,000 Virginia students and teachers each year.

Elizabeth River Project – $2,500

• The Learning Barge, the world’s first floating wetland classroom, teaches students about river science, the Elizabeth River watershed, ecosystem, stewardship and restoration efforts.

Virginia Natural Gas provides natural gas sales and distribution services to 290,000 customers in southeast Virginia.
