NORFOLK, Va. – A woman was cited at Norfolk International Airport after officials say she tried to bring a loaded gun onto an airplane.

The woman from Virginia Beach was stopped by TSA officers at the checkpoint with a .380 caliber handgun loaded with six rounds of ammunition and there was one in the chamber.

Officers detected the gun as she was going through the checkpoint.

TSA officers contacted the Norfolk Airport Authority Police, confiscated the gun and issued the woman a citation on a weapons charge.

The woman was headed to Newark, New Jersey.

Airport operations were not affected.
