CAPE HATTERAS, NC –  A high surf advisory has been issued for Cape Hatteras until 8 p.m. on Monday.

This advisory has been issued for the area north of Cape Hatteras.

Northeast winds and east-northeast swell is causing a very rough surf, dangerous rip currents and a strong shore break from Cape Lookout.

There is a threat of high rip currents on all beaches.

The surf is expected to be high through early Monday evening. The greatest threat of rip currents will be a couple of hours either side of low tide.

This can cause very rough surf, minor to moderate beach erosion and a high threat of rip currents.
