VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A man put a gun to another man's head and forced him out of a car window during a carjacking, according to a search warrant.
D'Angelo Sturd was arrested On March 16, 2016, and was charged with carjacking and use of a firearm. It all started in with a posting to sell a car on the app "OfferUp."
The victim's family gave Sturd their address because he was a potential buyer, according to court documents. When he arrived at the family's home on Sword Dancer Drive, the family's son got in the car with Sturd for a test drive.
During the drive, Sturd gave the victim an envelope and told him money was in it. As the victim tried to open the envelope, Sturd put a gun to the victim's head, according to court documents. Sturd then told the victim to get out of the car, but the victim couldn't use the door due to a malfunction, so instead he had to climb out of the window.
Once outside, the victim asked for backpack, which Sturd gave him before he took off in the car, according to the search warrant.
Police took out a search warrant for OfferUp's records to track down Sturd.
According to officials, while in jail on October 7, 2017, Sturd broke the sprinkler head causing flooding in his cell. Deputies found Sturd naked, rolling around in the water on the floor while laughing and yelling. The deputies found the sprinkler head wrapped in his bedsheet, which he had stuffed in the toilet. At the time of this offense, he was on probation for a previous tampering with fire suppression system charge.
He was found to be in violation of his probation and received an additional four years and six months of suspended prison time.
On October 2, 2018, Sturd was sentenced to 18 years in prison for carjacking, use of a firearm, tampering with a fire suppression system, and violation of probation.
