CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Chesapeake Police say reports that posts made to social media sites on Tuesday are prompting an extra security presence at Oscar Smith High School on Wednesday.

The post appears to be originally made to an Instagram account and then copied to Facebook and shared by multiple people. The post shows a picture of guns and a caption that says "Nobody come to smith [sic] tomorrow"

Some parents like Benny Jones didn’t think too much of it.
“That, I,  think was just a flash in the pan," Jones said. "With the security round here, i knew nothing like that was happening."

Chesapeake Police say several people reported the images to dispatchers and as a result, they will be sending an additional police presence to the school.

Chesapeake Public Schools spokesperson Kellie Goral confirms there was an altercation at the school on Tuesday, as well as the unfounded threats made to social media that have prompted the additional security and police presence.

Jones says he had no idea about the fight on Tuesday until hours later.

"I  picked my son up yesterday evening and he was talking about it. That’s when I  asked him, why they didn’t called us yesterday morning," Jones said.

Police and school officials are involved in an active investigation into the matter.
