WICHITA, Kan. — A 2-year-old Kansas boy is recovering after doctors removed a small octopus from his throat, according to KAKE.

The incident happened on Tuesday night when the boy’s mother returned home from work and found her boyfriend, Matthew Gallagher, 36, giving the child CPR.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital where doctors removed the small octopus lodged in the boy’s throat. The boy also had multiple facial injuries, police told KAKE.

Gallagher was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of child abuse, according to the report. He has since been released.

Officers told KSNW the octopus appeared to be intended for sushi.
