Norfolk, Va. – The City of Norfolk is looking for an artist or team of artists to create environmental public art that addresses Norfolk’s relationship with water.

With the support of a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant, we will commission an artist to create art that will be a catalyst for embracing creative solutions for adapting to sea level rise.

The budget for the piece is $121,000. Submissions must be in by 2:00 p.m. on April 1st.

Artists will work with urban planners and community partners to design the piece. It will be located in Norfolk’s NEON Arts District.

The final artwork should educate about Norfolk’s water challenges, foster dialog and point towards solutions. Water could be held where it falls, cleaned, used, or slowly released before it returns to the Chesapeake Bay

The artwork could be large or an integrated series of solutions. It must be constructed of durable, permanent outdoor materials that are safe and easily maintained.
