Norfolk, Va. – The National Education Association celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday at Old Dominion University on Saturday.

Read Across America is an annual celebration that partners with several schools around the country in order to motivate children and teens to read more. Each year the N.E.A. project takes a nation wide tour to cities like San Diego, Atlanta, and Denver.

Old Dominion University has been in support of the program for eight years.

“It seems to be growing year after year,” said Marc, Trade Book Manager.

There was face painting, meeting the famous Cat in the Hat and the children were able to read some of the famous books by Dr. Seuss.

“We usually have anywhere between 250 to 400 kids and parents,” said Marc.

All kinds of people attended, from faculty and staff to fans who just like Dr. Seuss. They all came to enjoy and reminisce the great adventures that are in his books.

Each year the event is held on the closest Saturday to Dr. Seuss’ March 2nd birthday.
