Chesapeake, Va. -- When it comes to choosing which lottery tickets to purchase, the strategies people use are endless.
"If it`s 12/21 I`ll buy a 12 and a 21. Or, if it`s the first of the month, I'll play," said one lottery player.
"I usually try to look at the newer games," added another.
However, the real secret to winning bigger jackpots on Virginia Lottery scratch off tickets may be just a few clicks away. It's as easy as going to the Virginia Lottery's website.
"For each of those games, we'll list all of the prizes that were available when the game began and how many of those prizes still remain," explains Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty.
To access the current list:
- Log onto valottery.com
- Hover over the "Games & More" tab near the top of the page
- Click "All Scratchers"
Once there, you'll see a complete list of all of the scratch off games currently available. The list will show the top prize of each game, as well as how many of those top prizes are still available. You'll also see which games are brand new and the ones about to go away.
"Some people like to see that. Some people use that as a strategy as they decide to play," Hagerty added.
Many people NewsChannel 3 found at the Border Station on the Virginia/North Carolina state line were surprised to learn about the not-so-hidden help online. But, the Virginia Lottery wants to change that.
"Do we want people to win?", John Hagerty says, "Absolutely!"
