Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - Severe weather that moved through Hampton Roads Wednesday evening caused a large canopy to blow over at a gas station.

It happened at the Kings Grant Exxon Tire & Auto on North Lynnhaven Road.

"Police called saying we had a little awning damage. So I came up here and took a look at it and it was a little more than a little damage. Really surprised to see it of course," owner Barry Carlson told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Thursday.

Fortunately no one was hurt when the canopy came crashing down.

"I saw the thing rocking a little bit when I left at 5 o’clock, but never did I expect this to happen. The canopy, I’ve been here for 20 years, and never had any problems before," Carlson said.

Despite how close it fell to the building, the auto repair side of the business continued uninterrupted Thursday with access through the back. The gas pumps however are not currently operational.
