Norfolk, Va. – One adult and two children have to find a new home after a kitchen fire badly damaged an apartment in Norfolk on Monday.

This happened in the 3500 block of Sewells Point Road just around 3:15 p.m.

Crews reported smoke showing from the two-story apartment building.

A man, who was able to get out of the apartment, was standing outside of the apartment.

He told crews that there was a fire inside of the kitchen of his upstairs apartment.

When crews entered, they found flames inside of the kitchen and it was spreading fast.

They searched the apartment for other occupants. The apartment sustained considerable smoke damage.

The smoke and fire damage caused crews to determine the apartment to be uninhabitable right now.

No one was injured and there were working smoke detectors inside of the apartment.
