UPDATE: The stranded passengers were able to board a flight to the Dominican Republic on Monday afternoon.  The plane landed at 6 p.m.

Norfolk, Va. - More than 100 people are still stuck in Norfolk International Airport after their plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Sunday.

Passengers were still waiting to take off more than 15 hours after a United Boeing 757 had to make an emergency landing with engine problems.

Officials say flight 1470 landed safely with more than 200 passengers and crew on board.

The flight was headed from Newark, New Jersey to the Dominican Republic.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to one passenger, who said passengers were screaming and crying during the emergency landing.

"We've been here since 11:30 and no plane is coming to take us to the Dominican Republic. No food, no nothing, everybody's got kids in here and it's a rough day," said passenger Maria Pagan.

Airport officials say they won’t leave until approximately 1:30 this afternoon.
