Chesapeake, Va. - Police are investigating after a 21-year-old man was shot to death in Chesapeake Saturday night.

The shooting happened at approximately 10:20 p.m. in the 40th Block of Colonial Way, according to police.

Officers found the victim, Cedric Towe, in the street, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

"I dropped him off at the 7-11 and before I pulled off, I asked him, 'Are you sure you're alright?' He said yes," says Cedric's father, Charles. "I felt comfortable with my son being there."

Cedric's family tells NewsChannel 3 that he grew up living along Colonial Way with his family. They say he walked there from the 7-11 to meet a woman on Saturday night, but the woman never showed up.

"They definitely knew what they were doing, it was well-planned. My cousin was completely innocent," says Lekwesha Towe, Cedric's cousin.

His loved ones held a vigil along Colonial Way on Sunday night to celebrate his life, and encourage the community to stop the violence.

"Be a leader and not a follower and step up and give our family answers, along with the friends and people in the community that loved this guy."

There is no suspect information at this point in the investigation.
