LOS ANGELES -- The body of a 20-year-old man landed on a freeway sign after he was ejected from a vehicle during a fatal crash on Friday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The deadly incident happened on the southbound 5 Freeway, the Los Angeles Fire Department tweeted.

A 20-year-old man was ejected from a vehicle and landed on the freeway sign, CHP officials confirmed. The body was covered with a sheet and fire officials were working to remove it from the sign as of 9:40 a.m., according to KTLA.

Officials said the incident happened north of Colorado Boulevard, but Google Maps showed it was Colorado Street.

A badly damaged black car, possibly a Prius, was seen on the roadway under the sign. It was not clear if any other vehicles were involved.

Two lanes on the southbound 5 Freeway's right side were closed following the crash.

The incident happened in Griffith Park area and bordered Atwater Village.
