Elizabeth City, NC - One sticker at a time Elizabeth City Police, are taking action against crime.
“You always want some kind of backup plan, security blanket in case your property is stolen,” says Latoya Flanigan, an Elizabeth City Police Officer.
And that security blanket comes in the form of a sticker.
Flanigan and the rest of the department are taking action against crime with the "anti-theft dot" program.
They want people to put free stickers on their valuable items.
It’s a label that contains microscopic dots on the back of it. Each dot has a serial number that's unique to each label.
Police will use those tiny serial numbers to identify the person who had their property stolen.
But what if the thief takes the sticker off? No problem.
The dots form themselves into the item.
“We are always looking for ways to be innovative and basically bridge the relationship with the community so we just think this initiative here with the anti-theft technology will do that,” says Flanigan.
And people in the community are appreciative.
“Police say the stickers will be available in November.
