Caroline County, Va. - Virginia State Police say Todd Houck, son of former Virginia Senator Edd Houck, is believed to have committed a murder before leading police on a pursuit and killing himself on the side of I-95 north in Spotsylvania County on Tuesday morning.

Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said they had received a 911 call just after 8:00 a.m. from a Relax Inn hotel where an argument and gunshots were heard.

Authorities arrived at the hotel to find a vehicle speeding away and 36-year-old Jeremy Gift dead from a gunshot wound.

Pursuit of Houck’s Mercury Mountaineer began at the hotel and continued onto I-95 north. Houck eventually pulled the vehicle over on the side of the road about 30 miles from the hotel in Spotsylvania County and gunshots were heard.
