Portsmouth, Va. – The Portsmouth Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Friday morning.

Police responded to an overturned vehicle around 4:20 a.m. at Portsmouth Boulevard and Effingham Street.

Investigators say that the driver of a red Ford pickup truck was driving without his headlights on at high speeds on George Washington Highway towards Portsmouth Boulevard.

The man drove through the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Effingham street and hit a silver Nissan.

The accident caused the silver Nissan to roll over several times before it landed on the driver’s side door.

When medics arrived, the driver of the overturned vehicle, a 51-year-old woman, was still inside and was unresponsive.

Medics took the woman to the hospital, where she later died.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 21-year-old Jeffrey Adams of Alabama.

Adams is charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter and DUI.
