No injuries in early morning fire at Portsmouth recycling plant

Portsmouth, Va. – Crews were called to an early morning fire at the Wheelabrator Trash & Recycling Plant located at 4 Victory Boulevard Saturday morning.

Around 6:45 a.m., a small fire started inside a recycling hopper. The buildings sprinkler system contained the fire to just the recyclable contents in the hopper, according to Chief Jim Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department.

The fire was under control in about 10 minutes.

There was no serious damage nor any injuries.
