Virginia Beach Police Officer taken to the hospital after car accident

Virginia Beach, Va. - A Virginia Beach Police Officer's condition is improving after their vehicle was hit on the way to respond to another car accident.

Around 12:45 p.m., police say the officer was in route to an accident with injuries near the intersection of Ferry Plantation and Haygood Road.

While traveling through the intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Witchduck Road, police say the officer was hit by another car.

The officer was transported to a local hospital. Police say the officer's injuries are minor, but the officer will continue to be monitored throughout the night.

Local businesses near the intersection tell NewsChannel 3, they have seen dozens of accidents at the intersection over the past couple of years.

The investigation into the accident is on-going.
