Newport News, Virginia - The 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue southbound near Mercury Boulevard is closed due to an accident.
Police say a 2002 Dodge truck was traveling south on Jefferson Avenue when it hit a utility pole in the median and knocked it down.
The driver of the truck fled the scene, leaving the truck, police say.
Dominion Virginia Power was called to the scene to repair the damage but were delayed by thunderstorms.
