Accident on Tidewater Drive knocks out power for thousands in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. – Many customers were without power after an accident in Norfolk caused a pole to come down.

Dispatch received a call at 3:10 p.m. that a vehicle had run into a power pole on Tidewater Drive and Burksdale Road. Police said no injuries were reported.

According to Dominion Virginia Power over 2,000 customers were originally without power but have since restored 883 customers.

Crews were on the scene cutting wire to isolate the problem and restore power to about 900 customers by 6 p.m.

The remaining customers had to wait for the crew to finish making repairs and replace the pole before their power was restored. They had power by 7:50 p.m.
