Toano, Va. – A Toano home was destroyed by fire Tuesday after the fire broke out and continued to burn for quite a while before it was reported.

An investigator happened to be driving by, noticed the heavy smoke coming from the home and called it in.

The fire was burning for 30-45 minutes and the roof had already collapsed before units arrived on scene just about five minutes after it was called in.

Crews from York, New Kent and JCC assisted. Water had to be tanked in to help fight the fire, which took over three hours.

No one was home at the time of the fire. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is not considered suspicious at this time.

A spokesman for the James City – Bruton Volunteer Fire Department says this is the second recent fire that no citizens have called in to report. This fire was noticed by an investigator who happened to drive by and the last fire that occurred was noticed by emergency personnel passing by.

Both fires happened in the daytime in populated neighborhoods.
