Virginia Beach, Va. - A Kellam High School teacher was arrested Tuesday after an investigation into an inappropriate relationship that had been reported by a female student.

George Brown

Police say the investigation indicated that between January and April, the teacher and student were engaged in an inappropriate relationship.

The teacher has been identified as 28-year-old George Brown. He has been charged with one count of Custodial Indecent Liberties.

Brown is listed as a Technology Education Teacher on the school's website. He has been a teacher at the school since 2010. He had also taught a class at Ocean Lakes High School during the 2011-2012 school year, according to a spokesperson for Virginia Beach Public Schools.

Brown has been suspended without pay from his position at the school.

He has been released from jail.

Virginia Beach Police encourage anyone who may have additional information on this case to contact the Special Victims Unit at 757-385-4101.

Parents of Kellam High School students were't notified. A spokesperson from the school system sent NewsChannel 3 this statement:

While we understand parents may have preferred to hear of the arrest of Mr. Brown from Kellam administration, we hope they understand that an ongoing police investigation limits the amount of information the school can release. In addition, issuing a schoolwide alert without detailed information can lead to widespread speculation and increased anxiety.  It was a conscious decision that the best course of action was to field questions and concerns individually rather than relying on a schoolwide alert.
