One of our producers spoke to a man who told us he was from the U.S. Treasury Department.
He claimed that a 2012 tax return was not filed correctly.
According to the scammer, because of the mistakes and miscalculations on that return, nearly $5,000 was owed to the IRS.
Our producer was warned that if she hung up the phone, FBI agents would show up at our door within 45 minutes.
We checked the number and found out the call was coming from Orlando, Florida.
There was also a television playing in the background.
The term "tax pay vouchers" has been associated with similar scams.
The scammer finally hung up and, of course, the FBI never showed up.
