Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man has been arrested and charged after police say an altercation led to him firing a handgun at a woman in Newport News.
At about 2:41 p.m. on March 25, 2015, police responded to a report of a domestic situation in which a gun had been fired in the 13200 block of Ridgeview Drive.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the complainant at the rental office. The complainant told officers that she and her boyfriend had been involved in a verbal altercation that had escalated to the boyfriend damaging her cell phone and brandishing a handgun and firing in her direction, police say. Other officers had responded to the address of the incident and had detained the boyfriend. As a result of the investigation, the boyfriend was arrested and two other people were issued summonses, according to police.
Shonn Antwyan Eubanks, Jr., age 20, of the 13200 block of Ridgeview Drive, was charged with one count each of malicious assault, brandishing a firearm, discharging a firearm in a public place and destruction to property.
Chantise Nicole Thorpe, age 24, of the 13200 block of Ridgeview Drive, was issued summonses charging her with one count each of possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice.
Cornell Farmer, age 22, of the 13200 of Ridgeview Drive, was issued a summons for obstruction of justice.
Farmer and Thorpe were released on summonses at the scene, police tell NewsChannel 3.
