UPDATE: Police arrest man in crash that shut down Sandbridge Road

UPDATE: The road is now open. 

Virginia Beach, Va. - Police have arrested a man following an overnight crash that shut down Sandbridge Road, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Wednesday, January 7, at approximately 2:53 a.m., a Virginia Beach Police Officer was traveling in the 1200 block of Sandbridge Road when he came upon downed power lines in the road and trees on fire. The officer then found an overturned vehicle that was entangled in the downed wires. The officer located the uninjured driver on the scene.

The driver in this crash has been identified as 32-year-old Adam Kyle Richey of the 200 block of Sandbridge Road. Richey has been charged with DWI and DWI Refusal of Test. Richey was released on bond.

The 1200 block of Sandbridge Road remains closed until repairs are complete, according to Virginia Beach Police.

Traffic is being re-routed through the Dam Neck gate.
