UPDATE: A judge has denied bond for Kyle Adams. The preliminary hearing has been continued to February 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Stay with NewsChannel 3 for updates.

Norfolk, Va. - A man arrested for trying to pass himself as a police officer, is set to appear in court Monday morning.

Online, he describes himself as a big time political lobbyist.

Albums on his Facebook page are filled with photos of him and some powerful elected leaders, such as Bob McDonnell and Mitt Romney.

But, now - he's behind bars, charged with pretending to be a police officer - and, folks who knew him say he pretended to be a lot of things.

This is the man who Norfolk police say pretended to be a police officer himself.

Kyle Adams is also charged with abduction.

Norfolk court records show Adams stopped a couple, told them he was an officer, and searched them for money. Then, he took off in an SUV.

The charges filed by police indicate Adams was armed at the time.

Adams is a political lobbyist, and several people who knew him say he tried to pass himself off not only as a cop -- but an attorney and top lobbyist.

One woman who worked for him told NewsChannel 3 Adams sometimes drove a car with hidden police lights. He claimed he was a lawyer and even charged her for legal work.

A disabled war veteran and former employee of Adams also came forward, saying everything he told her turned out to be a scam -- her first paycheck from him bounced.

"I don't want to be known as the gullible girl, but I honestly feel like I was. I was played for a fool."

Norfolk police arrested Kyle Adams back in November.

Adams is facing several felony charges.

He's scheduled to be in court at 10:30 a.m. this morning.
