Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man is now facing various charges including child neglect and marijuana possession after a traffic stop, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 11:41 p.m., a Newport News police officer stopped a red Toyota in the area of Lees Mill Drive and Warwick Blvd. in reference to defective equipment.

There was an odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle, according to police. There was also a child in a child safety seat in the backseat of the vehicle. The child safety seat was not properly secured, nor was the 8-month-old infant boy properly secured within the safety seat, police say.
