SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — A 25-year-old woman faces assault charges for allegedly pummeling a woman because she disliked the short shorts the victim wore to a company barbecue, Snohomish County prosecutors allege.

Alica Rae Hanson was charged with second-degree assault on Aug. 6. A warrant has been in issued for her arrest.

According to court documents, the victim was hanging out at an employee appreciation barbecue for an area tree service company on June 22 at a home in the 7700 block of 184th Drive SE. Hanson allegedly confronted the victim over a pair of shorts she was wearing, documents show, claiming they were too short for the party.

Prosecutors allege Hanson was quite confrontational when she approached the victim, but the two parted ways. A short time later though, the victim was walking around the property when Hanson allegedly “came running down a hill,” hit the victim in the face, jumped on top of her and pummeled her, prosecutors said.

Witnesses pulled Hanson off the victim.

Deputies called to the scene found the victim bleeding with a cut under her eye and her eye swollen shut. She was taken to the Providence Hospital and was diagnosed with fractures to the face and bleeding in the eye. Her pelvis was also damaged.

Hanson has no criminal history.
