Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing boat in Chesapeake Bay

Portsmouth, Va. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 55-year-old man from a fishing boat in southern Chesapeake Bay on Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a call from the operator of the fishing boat John S. Dempster at approximately 4:15 p.m., stating a crewman had suffered a seizure in the vicinity of Fisherman Island.

Members of Coast Guard Station Cape Charles launched aboard a 25-foot Response Boat – Small at approximately 4:25 p.m. The crew arrived at the fishing boat approximately two miles west of the entrance to Elliots Creek and took the man aboard at approximately 4:45 p.m.

The crew then brought the man to Kiptopeke State Park where he transferred to local EMS at about 4:55 p.m.

He was reported to be in good condition.
