Isle of Wight, Va. — Representatives of Isle of Wight County Schools were recognized by Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe for the school division’s healthy makeover.

Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS) competed in Virginia’s Food For Thought competition and was selected as the winner in the Meal Access to Fight Hunger category.

Judges recognized IWCS’s commitment to its students and the local community through the Farm to School program, where schools receive locally grown fruits and vegetables, and the newly installed salad bar at Windsor High School.

The Food For Thought competition consists of three categories:  Healthy School Meals, Meal Access to Fight Hunger, and Wellness and Physical Activity.

The competition was created to educate, engage, and empower school leaders to address childhood hunger and provide Virginia students with healthier school meals.
