Coast Guard investigates after loud boom heard in Dare County

Dare County, NC – What was that sound? That’s what some folks were saying Tuesday night after hearing a loud boom in Dare County.

The Coast Guard received a call from Dare Central about the loud sound.  they called out to vessel traffic in the area from Nags Head to Duck and Kill Devil Hills.

They say no boats in the area have seen any crashes or explosions.

Officials say there was a vessel that was operating with its deck lights on at the time. Someone called 911 reporting a bright light on the horizon.

The Navy is conducting training in Dare County with aircraft and this sound may have been sonic booms.
