UPDATE: Shillelagh Road now open after sinkhole repairs

UPDATE: Shillelagh Rd. is now open to traffic following Tuesday’s closure for a cave-in. 

Chesapeake, Va. – A sinkhole has closed the 1200 block of Shillelagh Road in both directions in Chesapeake.

Detours are marked and drivers should avoid the area if possible.

The city says this closure will last much of the day as crews complete repairs.

The following detours are in place:

Southbound Shillelagh Road detour:

Vincek Way to Scenic Blvd.; then to Drum Castle Way to West Road to Benefit Road back to Shillelagh Road. (End detour).

Northbound Shillelagh Road detour:

Johnstown Road to Battlefield Blvd. to Cedar Road to Cahoon Parkway to Ward Road back to Shillelagh. (End detour).
