Virginia Beach City Public Schools are now under the leadership of a new superintendent -- Dr. Aaron Spence.

Dr. Spence assumed his new role on Monday, June 23rd. He is a graduate of Green Run High School.

He returned to take the role at VBCPS after serving most recently as superintendent of Moore County Public Schools in North Carolina.

Before that, Dr. Spence was chief high school officer of the Houston Independent School District.

Dr. Spence began his career in Virginia as a French teacher and photojournalism teacher. Prior to leaving Virginia, he served as an assistant principal and later as a principal in Henrico County Public Schools. He also served as chief academic officer and director of curriculum and instruction for Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools says Dr. Spence wants very much to keep in touch with the pulse of this community. Those who want to share some great ideas with him; brag on their schools; share an opinion or ask a question of him, can reach him
