Coast Guard medevacs man near Oregon Inlet, N.C.

Portsmouth, Va. – The Coast Guard medevaced a recreational boater Saturday who suffered from a laceration near Oregon Inlet, North Carolina.

Dare County Emergency Services contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 3:08 pm reporting that the owner of a 22-foot power boat suffered a laceration on his leg near Bonner Bridge and was in need of medical assistance.

Sector watchstanders launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to assist.

The small boat crew and a good Samaritan arrived on scene at approximately 4 pm and tried to tow the vessel into deeper water in order to transfer the injured man.

However, the helicopter crew arrived on the scene at approximately 4:05 pm and hoisted him aboard.

The injured man was flown to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City and transferred to personnel there at approximately 5 pm.
