Norfolk, Va. - A documentary about a former Navy SEAL trainee convicted of murder debuts in Norfolk on Thursday.

His mother hopes the film will help lead to his release.

Dustin Turner's mother has dedicated her life to appealing her son's sentence, working with several different governors to pardon her son.

Dusty Turner has been in jail for 19 years - his mother says for a crime he did not commit.

One night, nearly 20 years ago, Turner met Jennifer Evans, a vacationing college student, who later ended up dead.

Turner and his friend, Billy Joe Brown, who was also there that night, blamed each other for her death. Prosecutors then used a Virginia Law that said if two people act together in a murder, they both can be found guilty.

But years later, Brown confessed to killing Evans, and that Turner only helped hide the body and cover up the crime.

Several judges said Turner should be set free, others said the conviction should stand.

Now Turner's mom hopes the film will lead the governor to grant her son a pardon.

The documentary, 'Target of Opportunity,' is scheduled for a 7 p.m. showing tonight at the Naro on Colley Avenue in Norfolk.
