Chesapeake, Va. (WTKR) - The Chesapeake Mosquito Control Commission is taking the ages-long battle against those pesky mosquitoes into the digital age.

As you fire up the barbeque this summer, you may also want to fire up your computer before heading outside.

Joe Simmons, Director of the Chesapeake Mosquito Control Commission, says this year they've started using an interactive map to show what areas will be sprayed each night.

"A citizen can go in and type their address and the map will pop up to show if they are going to be sprayed or not," Simmons told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo.

Simmons says Chesapeake is one of just a handful of cities in the country using the interactive map technology

His crews have also already noticed high numbers of mosquitoes in traps all over the area.

"In the last two weeks, our trap numbers have been exceptionally high and our guys have been working very, very hard to try and get them under control," Simmons said.
